For almost 30 years the Nigerian Christian Institute (N.C.I.) has contributed to the expansion of learning and the development of minds of Nigerians and Africans.
We operate the Nursery Primary School in Eket, the secondary school and the school of preaching as well as the Tertiary program in affiliation to the University –of Uyo. Several ancillary support units like the Medical centre helps us cater to more than 1500 students about 1/3 living on our campus (Boarders). Our objective is to serve while educating and teaching with Christian moral values.
Obong Okon Mkpong has made lasting footprint on the area of education in the country. He has taught in many schools in Nigeria and overseas before his retirement from public services in 1985, as a school principal. A graduate of the Freed Hardeman University, and David Lipscom University USA. His passion for education propelled him into establishing a private secondary school, the Nigeria Christian Institute N.C.I Uyo, in 1988. He is at present, chairman of the Foundation for Christian Education services and the president of the school. He has traveled widely and authored many books.
Starting in 1982 as a one room school of preaching, we have grown into the Nigeria Christian Institute with a secondary school in 1988 and in 2002 added a diploma program currently affiliated to the University of Uyo. On our 7 hecter campus in Uyo: we have over 1200 students in total about 700 of who live on campus.
Borrowed from a program in the secondary school where the top 10% of the students at the senior secondary level students are given extra classes and tutored with the goal of scoring 7 alphas in 7subjects at their OL GCE examinations.
The elite group of student is the pride of the N.C.I and it is our hope that we can assemble such a group of students to form the initial population of the proposed Alpha University.
To create a first class learning environment utilizing the latest technological tools and techniques to impart knowledge with the fear of God
To develop the complete man, wise in the ways of the world but equipped with the world but equipped with the word of God to guide him to always make the right choices in life.
We seek to become a leading learning and research environment guided by Christian principles to prepare young people for excellences in life here and hereafter.
Through the years we have been involved in raising young people to be academically sound, God fearing and upright. We have seen some of our good students adhere to our Christian principles throughout their stay with us only to go public Universities and because of negative influence at that level, develop anti-Christian and antisocial behavior patterns, we believe that in a learning environment based on the Bible we can nature young people to adulthood and urge them to keep to the Christian virtues we uphold strongly. In a society where many persons say one thing and do another, we hope to create a learning environment where double standards are not tolerated. Most importantly, every year thousands of smart secondary school graduates are deprived of the opportunity of University education due to lack vacancies in the few existing Universities.
We hope to help increase the availability of University learning opportunities to Nigerians. Proposed Alpha University After more than 30 years the N.C. L has grown from a one classroom school to a large Educational endeavor with more than 17 prominent buildings on our IBB way campus in Uyo, not to mention the Nursery and Primary school at Eket. We have become a recruitment site for many of the top private Universities in Nigeria and abroad. After operating the Tertiary program in affiliation to the University of Uyo for 9 years, we believe the time is right to expand the institute further to provide Nigerians with a first class faith based University. Our graduate any many other member of the N.C.L. family have grown into leaders in both industry and higher Education and many have indicated an interest to return and give back to where they started – the N.C.L.
In pursuit of our plan we have assembled a term of seasoned University Educationist and managers who share our ideals and believes to bring this dream into a reality.
The NCL is blessed to be associated with numerous international supporters and intends to utilize this link to create a world class learning environment at Alpha University. Every year we play host to many foreign professionals on our campus. Amongst such organizations are:
Our chief supporters from the very beginning. They have been with us through thick and thin and have supported us through the years financially and otherwise. Much of what we have today at the NCL would not be here without the love and care of the leadership of this congregation especially Dr. David Jones Jnr.
From the initial support for the construction of our main building in 1987, this church has shown a commitment to mission work in Africa working through the NCL and we are very happy to them on our side as we make this strides into this our biggest expansion project to date.
This Group of Christian women have contributed funds for the construction of our LACE building in addition to offering scholarships to needy Christian girls who otherwise afford to go to NCL.
This US based organization 2 years ago donated 26.000 volumes in a 40ft container to stock our Libraries and have our students access the learning materials used by American student.
